- Adobe has introduced Adobe Acrobat 8.0 and Adobe Reader 8.0, which are available for Windows XP Home/Professional SP1/2 and Windows 2000 SP2. The new version 1.1.9 of AcosHelp Handler works very well with Adobe
Acrobat/Reader 8.0.
- We have made three bugfixes on AcosHelp Manager. For details see the version log.
- If you have installed AcosHelp Manager you can update by selecting the menu Help > Update.

- Adobe has introduced Adobe Acrobat 7.0 and Adobe Reader 7.0, which are available for Windows XP Home/Professional SP1/2 and Windows 2000 SP2. The new version 1.1.8 of AcosHelp Handler works very well with Adobe
Acrobat/Reader 7.0. Some text-reading problems in earlier versions of Adobe Acrobat/Reader has been solved here
and in Adobe Reader 6.0.2, and this has improved the reliability of AcosHelp significantly. The problem was an
extra space inside a few words, but according to Murphy's law it was too often in just the word to be found.
We consequently highly recommend using Adobe Acrobat/Reader 7.0 and Adobe Reader 6.0.2 with AcosHelp.
- A new version of AcosHelp Manager (1.0.20) and AcosHelp Handler (1.1.8) has consequently been introduced.
If you have installed AcosHelp Manager you can update by selecting the menu Help > Update.
- At the same time we have made some improvements and bugfixes on AcosHelp Manager. For details see the version log.

- AcosHelp Handler Version 1.1.7: A cosmetic bug was found on some error messages. Solved.
At the same time displaying the correct version was improved (it failed for version 1.1.6 because it should be
updated two places, now only one place.)

AcosHelp Handler is now also available in a setup package
which installs it directly in the windows directory. This is mainly intended for applications without a setup package,
for example macro applications. This setup package is NOT included in the AcosHelp Manager installation
package as only few users will need it (most users will install AcosHelp Handler with their own setup package.)
At the same time AcosHelp Manager has got a new and better setup package from INNO instead of the original
and somewhat problematic 'Microsoft VB6 - Package and Deployment Vizard'.
First installation of PRC AcosHelp Manager
- Download the 100% workable
free demo version of 'PRC AcosHelp Manager' including the 'PRC AcosHelp Handler'.
The only demo-disadvantage is that the users will receive a message that the help
function is made by an unlicenced demo in average every four times they use the help function.
These messages can easily be removed (load and re-save) when you have got the license.
The demo version is converted to a fully licensed version by buing the license (see point 2
below) and entering the license number.
'PRC AcosHelp Manager' is to be installed on the PC of the technical communicator
responsible for the context sensitive help conversion. The installation of PRC AcosHelp Manager
includes the installation of PRC AcosHelp Handler in the Windows directory of the same PC.
'PRC AcosHelp Handler' (AcosHelp.exe) is to be placed in the Windows directory
(typically c:\WINDOWS or c:\WinNT) on the PC of the user of your application.
You can copy it from your own Windows directory or download a setup package.
Installation of AcosHelp.exe must be integrated in the installation package of your application.
Note: AcosHelp Handler needs Adobe Acrobat or Adobe Reader to be installed
on the PC using AcosHelp fur opening PDF-files on the desired place in the file.

- Select Windows [Start] > Run.
- Type 'acoshelp ?' (without the ' ') and press the [Enter] key.
If no version is displayed it is version 1.0.0 or 1.0.1, else the version is displayed.

The version of PRC AcosHelp Manager is displayed in the lower right corner of the About tab.
The latest version of AcosHelp Manager is version 1.0.23.
PRC AcosHelp Manager has got a semi-automatic update system keeping track of the version of your
AcosHelp files and performing the update on your command. However, until version 1.0.17, there
has been problems with this system.
To update AcosHelp Manager from version 1.0.17 or later:
In AcosHelp Manager select the menu 'Help' > 'Update'. This will compare the content of a version
list file on the Internet with the versions you have got.

- If there is no new update available you will see a message box telling you that.
- If a new update is available, you will be asked if you want to update now. If 'yes'
all files needed (and only these files) will be downloaded from the Internet and installed in
the proper directories. If PRC AcosHelp Manager was updated it will be restarted (but you
will be asked if you want to save unsaved data first).

To update AcosHelp Manager you need to follow the procedure for
"First installation of PRC AcosHelp Manager".
If you have bought a license, this will automatically be transferred to the new version.
Downloading/Updating
PRC AcosHelp Handler
The latest version of the free AcosHelp Handler is version 1.1.9. To see which version you have, go to your
windows directory and run AcosHelp.exe.
The free PRC AcosHelp Handler is updated together with updating of the PRC AcosHelp Manager.
When PRC AcosHelp Handler has been updated you will be notified that a new version is recommended
to be included with your applications using AcosHelp.
If you are a user of an application which is using AcosHelp, you have two options:
- Download the setup file (AHHSetup.exe 389 kB ~ 90 sek with a K56 modem, ~ 2 sec with a 2MB connection) and run it. That will install AcosHelp.exe in your Window directory.
- Download the zipped (unzip software) package of the latest version of PRC AcosHelp Handler:
- Click here to download PRC AcosHelp Handler (AcosHelp.zip, 47 kB, ~ 10 sec with a K56 modem.)
- Unzip the package to your Windows directory, normally c:\WINDOWS or c:\winNT.
