Introduction
PRC AcosHelp is the new "single source" Windows online help
system using Adobe Acrobat PDF-files for context sensitive online help.
It is also very useful for Document Management systems, where the documents are stored as PDF-files.
PRC AcosHelp makes it possible to access any place in a PDF-file – page, heading or keyword –
controlled from your application program:
Example of a context sensitive online help system using PRC AcosHelp:
- The user clicks a help (toggle) button or a menu in your application. The cursor changes to
.
|
 |
- The user clicks the object where help is wanted.
|
 |
- Adobe (Acrobat) Reader opens on the help text for the item selected, highlighting
the heading or keyword.

Alternatively, you can make a system where the user press e.g. the F2 key for context sensitive help to the actual element (button, combo, text field ...) in focus.

Easy to work with
PRC AcosHelp is extremely fast and easy to work with. When the PDF-file has been generated it
typically takes the technical communicator less than a minute to generate the help-file.
Afterwards – dependent of the complexity – it takes from a few minutes to a few hours to enter the connections between the objects
and the related help text in order to establish the final context sensitive help.
PRC AcosHelp is equally easy for the programmers.
Translations are most often handled in a few minutes.
Updates of the source language text as well as translations are also most often handled
in a few minutes because the connections between the objects and the related help text is
transferred from the old version.
